Huawei P30 Lite Review – In the P30 series smartphone, Huawei provides a lite version of the smartphone, the P30 Lite. As Huawei has informed before, Huawei P30 Lite comes with different names in several countries. The global version uses the name, P30 Lite. Whereas in China will use the name Nova 4e.

As the name implies the word Lite, this device has a simpler specification than the other P30 series.

The significant difference from the three P30 series is the Huawei P30 Lite even though it is included in the Huawei P series of smartphones, but the P30 Lite is not provided by the Leica camera. However, Huawei P30 Lite still prioritizes the camera and performance as its flagship feature.

Huawei P30 Lite is still embedded with AI technology, and GPU Turbo features like other Huawei P Series.

Huawei P30 Lite Design

Huawei P30 Lite has a look similar to the Nova series, especially with the absence of the Leica logo which is usually attached to other P series cameras.

This phone is quite sturdy and elegant thanks to the wrapping of Midnight Black colored glass material. Huawei P30 Lite has dimensions of 152.9 x 72.7 x 7.4 mm and weighs 159 g.

When the P30 Lite is held, this smartphone is quite comfortable and not too heavy. The curved corner on the side adds comfort when in your hand.

A pretty annoying drawback of this smartphone design, in my opinion, the hand trail is easily left behind so that the smartphone looks easy to get dirty.

If the other two series use an OLED screen, the Huawei P30 Lite is equipped with an IPS LCD screen measuring 6.15 inches with a resolution of 2312 x 1080 pixels. Above the screen, there is a notch waterdrop as a container for 32MP selfie cameras and receiver speakers.

Just like the P30 series, the Huawei P30 Lite also doesn’t have a curved screen like the P30 Pro series. At the back body, there are three cameras arranged vertically on the left side along with the LED flash under the camera. Next, to the camera, there is also a fingerprint scanner.

On the right side, there are volume up and down buttons and the power button. While on his left side there was nothing.

MicroUSB 2.0, a speaker, a 3.5mm audio jack, a mic hole embedded in the bottom. While at the top there is a slot for 2 SIM Cards where one functions hybrid as an SD Card slot.

Hardware and Performance

To support this smartphone performance, Huawei uses the Kirin 710 chipset with an Octa-core processor and Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. The storage provided is 6GB RAM, 128GB ROM and MicroSD slot up to 512GB.

Support for GPU Turbo-based AI technology can provide maximum performance, especially when playing games. In addition to optimal performance, GPU Turbo technology can make battery life more efficient.

Testing its performance, we conducted several tests such as benchmark tests, playing games, watching videos and movies and listening to music. We use Benchmark Applications like AnTuTu and Geekbench 4.

Benchmark results from the AnTuTu application score 129435. While Geekbench 4 shows the number 1512 for single core and 5300 for multi-core. For the battery, this smartphone is supported by a 3340mAh capacity battery.

UI and Features

For the operating system, Huawei P30 Lite runs with the Android 9.0 Pie operating system wrapped in the EMUI 9.0 display.

Just like other P30 series, Huawei P30 Lite offers several application options for data transfer needs such as Huawei Share and Phone Clone. What distinguishes between the P30 Lite series and the other P30 is the P30 Lite does not provide NFC features, because that Huawei P30 Lite is an affordable version.

For device security, there is nothing different from this smartphone with the other P30 series. Fingerprint, Face Recognition is still embedded in the Huawei P30 Lite. It’s just that the fingerprint scanner on this device is not located on the screen but is placed on the back of the smartphone.

The fingerprint scanner on the Huawei P30 Lite works well and only takes 0.25 seconds to recognize it. In the condition of wet fingers, this feature is also still able to work.

Face recognition can also function with a 45-degree incline both right – left and up – down the face. At the time of recording my face uses glasses, and when my glasses are removed, the sensor can still recognize.

Huawei P30 Lite Camera

This smartphone embeds three main cameras with the 24MP resolution, 8MP, and 2MP resolution. The primary camera and selfie camera are both supported by AI technology that can recognize objects and adjust them to the appropriate settings automatically so that the photos can be better.

Although not carrying a camera made by Leica in general, photos taken by the Huawei P30 Lite are quite reliable for those who need them to share on social media. The bokeh photos are pretty good too.

The shooting mode on this device is also the same as the other P30 series except there is no aperture mode. Although there is no aperture mode, Huawei P30 Lite is still able to produce bokeh photos by activating the AI feature in the photo mode or by using portrait mode.

Conclusion

For users who have a limited budget, but want to have a P series smartphone owned by Huawei, the P30 Lite version is worth having. It’s just that you don’t expect to get high end features like those offered by the other two series, the Huawei P30 and the Huawei P30 Pro. However, the photographic capabilities of this device can be thumbs up for smartphones in its class.
